Antique Maps
There is a fascination at looking at the world as seen through the eyes and craft of geographers and cartographers from the past. From Eratosthenes to Marinus of Tyre to Ptolemy who first used the word geography and used longitude, latitude and co-ordinates to show the relevant position of the earth landmass. Then to the Golden Age of Cartography (1550 – 1675) with Mercator, Ortelious, Blaeu, and Jode, and others whose maps were admired as works of art. | ![]() |
