This intricately designed 1632 Map of Asia by Jan Jansson features renowned Dutch Baroque Cartography. Its detailed depiction of the Middle East is based on contemporary sources, while its Southeast Asian and Indonesian Archipelago features were derived from maps made for the Dutch East India Company. The left side shows different costumes worn by people from Syria, Arabia, and India, and the bottom illustrates views of India and Bengal. Europeans of the time still had little comprehension of this region until the early 18th century. The detailed design and accurate features of the 1632 Map of Asia provide a clear and accurate picture of the Middle East and Southeast Asia at that time.
