Abraham Ortelius (Abraham Ortels) (14 April 1527 – 28 June 1598) was a cartographer and geographer, generally recognized as the creator of the first modern atlas, the Theatrum Orbis Terrarum (Theatre of the World). He is also believed to be the first person to imagine that the continents were joined together before drifting to their present positions. This replication piece was originally named the Asiae Nova Descripto and features an incorrect projection of Japan and Southeast Asia, a very distinct Northeast passage and includes such embellishments as sailing ships in the oceans. This map is a testament to Ortelius' expertise and skill as a cartographer in 1567, offering a comprehensive look at Asia at the time. It has been faithfully replicated and presented as a stunning piece of art, perfect for any collection.
