The State of California is the third largest and most densely populated U.S. state. The state capital is Sacramento. Regions include The Greater Los Angeles area, the San Francisco Bay Area and San Bernardino County. Other cities and towns are San Diego, San Jose, Fresno, Long Beach, Oakland, Bakersfield and Anaheim.
The San Francisco Bay Area is home to four of the world's ten largest companies and four of the world's ten richest people at the time of writing. The San Francisco Bay Area and the Greater Los Angeles Area dominates the global technology and entertainment industries.
California is also considered the origin of the hippie counterculture, beach culture, the Internet and the PC.
Nevada shares a border with California to the west and is comparatively unpopulated. It's know as the "Silver State" as silver has been important in its history. The capital is Carson City and area include Fallon, Las Vegas, Minden Elko and Goldfield.
Nevada means 'Snowy' and was named so due to the small overlap with the Sierra Nevada mountain range. In reality, most of Nevada is desert and semi-arid land such as the Great Basin and the Mojave Desert.
